archive.family is a private website where one family keeps its record: who everyone is, what the papers prove, and the stories in the family's own words.
It works like this. Someone sends a relative a photograph with a link made for her alone. She taps it, sees the photograph, taps a circle and talks. Her recording lands next to the photograph, pinned to the people in it. Ask the archive a question and it answers with the tree, a person or a number. Nothing enters the record until someone trusted approves it. The family owns all of it and can take it out at any time.
Underneath there is no engine: one web application, one database, one folder of originals, and a certificate. It keeps evidence apart from claims. A source (a photograph, a recording, a scan) is stored once and never edited. A claim ("born 1912 in Minsk") records where it came from, who said it, how sure we are, and whether a person has accepted it. Two memories that disagree can both stay.
The archive is private and will remain so. The code is written so that another family could run their own in an afternoon, and a version for other families is planned. When it exists, it will be linked here.
